You must meet the following requirements to pursue an athlete/entertainer P visa

• You must compete individually or as part of a team at an internationally recognized level, or be an essential part of a performance or group that has achieved international recognition for a "sustained and substantial period of time"
• This visa is not intended for solo performers

For individual athletes, an initial period of five years is granted, with one five year extension allowed. There is no limit for any other P-1 classification.
